Australia clinched their sixth ODI World Cup title, clinching victory against India by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Aussies are known for their unique celebrations. In 2021 fans were surprised by their 'shoe' celebration after winning the T20 World Cup in Dubai.

But this one of their post-match celebration pics stirred controversy when a photo of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh with his feet casually resting on the coveted trophy went viral. The post-victory revelry in the dressing room is customary, marked by jubilation, laughter, and the display of camaraderie among teammates.

However, the focal point became the controversial photo capturing Marsh's seemingly irreverent gesture with the World Cup trophy. The image quickly circulated on social media platforms, triggering a wave of reactions from cricket enthusiasts worldwide especially in India.

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami also joined the bandwagon by expressing his disapproval of Marsh's actions during a press interaction. The former was the tournament's leading wicket-taker for India with an impressive tally of 24 scalps, conveyed his disappointment, saying, "I am hurt. The trophy for which all the teams in the world fight, the trophy which you want to lift over your head, keeping a foot on that trophy did not make me happy."

The Australia all-rounder's post-match picture evoked mixed reactions from fans. While some agreed with Shami that it is a disregard to the prestigious trophy for which some elite players around the world fight to get their hands on it, others say that it is the Aussie style as they don’t make World Cups, and these trophies a matter of life and death and that’s why they win them most of the times.

The right-arm pacer's outstanding performance in the tournament, including a record-breaking spell of 7 for 57 against New Zealand in the semifinal, highlighted his pivotal role in India's journey. Reflecting on his initial absence from the playing XI, Shami emphasized the mental strength required to stay focused and supportive despite being benched.

In a candid discussion, Shami shed light on the mental toughness necessary when sidelined. "When you sit out for four matches, you need to be mentally strong. Sometimes you are under pressure, but when you see the team performing well and going in a good direction, it gives you satisfaction," he remarked.
