The 2023 Cricket World Cup is currently in full swing, with ten teams vying for the coveted trophy. The tournament has been marked by several upsets and a few thrilling encounters, with India, New Zealand, and South Africa emerging as the early frontrunners. As we are now at the halfway stage, the pressure is mounting on all teams to perform, and Bangladesh is no exception.

The Tigers have had a disappointing tournament so far, managing just a solitary victory in five matches. Their campaign began brightly with a win over Afghanistan, but they have since succumbed to four heavy defeats against England, New Zealand, India and South Africa. What serves as a huge worry for the management is the fact that both their batters and bowlers have underperformed which is why they find themselves in such a poor position in the competition.

Shakib returns to Dhaka

Now, news has emerged that their captain, Shakib-Al-Hasan has returned to Dhaka to prepare for Bangladesh's upcoming matches against the Netherlands and Pakistan, which will both be held in Kolkata. Bangladesh will hope that the decision pays dividends as they have had a terrible campaign so far.

As has Shakib who has scored only 56 runs in 4 games with a high score of 40. His strike rate of 67.47 has also been way below the demands of the modern game. With the ball, he has done a decent job, picking up 6 wickets in 4 games at an economy rate of 5.54.

The management will be desperate for the players to put up a few impressive showings and Shakib as a senior pro and captain has to lead from the front. The all-rounder has been a consistent performer over a long period and there is no reason why he can't turn it around. His decision to go back to Dhaka to train with his mentor indicates that he is desperate to make a mark

Here is how Twitter reacted to Shakib's decision:
