In a recent update, it has been revealed that Hardik Pandya, the versatile all-rounder of India's men's cricket team, is expected to sit out the next two World Cup league matches due to an ankle injury he sustained during a game against Bangladesh. This cautious decision has been made by the team management to ensure his full recovery and prevent any undue risks.

According to reports in The Indian Express, Pandya's absence will be keenly felt in the forthcoming matches. He is anticipated to make a comeback for the final two games against South Africa and the Netherlands.

The injury occurred during the ninth over of the Bangladesh innings in Pune. Pandya, in an attempt to stop a powerful shot, slipped during his follow-through and landed awkwardly on his ankle, causing a twist. The team's physio examined the injury, and as a precaution, Pandya was withdrawn from the field.

As of now, Pandya has not resumed bowling, and it is deemed too early for him to return to action in the match against England this weekend. The medical team is closely monitoring his recovery as he continues his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

The Indian team management is undoubtedly hoping for Pandya's swift return to full fitness, particularly with the knockout stages on the horizon. His unique skill set, combining both batting and bowling prowess, is invaluable to the current squad, and his absence could have significant repercussions in high-stakes encounters.

Hardik Pandya’s injury has shaken up India’s combination

Pandya’s injury has shaken India’s combination as they have reverted to a composition featuring six specialist batsmen and five dedicated bowlers which doesn’t give India the leverage to play an all-rounder at No.8 which they have been doing in their first four matches. Mohammed Shami has stepped in for Pandya, and his remarkable performance, claiming a five-wicket haul, helped fill the void left by the all-rounder.

Under Rohit Sharma's leadership, the Indian team has consistently aimed for a well-rounded playing XI, with Pandya playing a pivotal role in maintaining balance. With Pandya as the all-rounder, India can field four dedicated bowlers, while Ravindra Jadeja takes on the role of the second all-rounder. Shami's stellar performance with the ball was commendable, but his lower batting position, coming in at number 8, has raised questions about the team's equilibrium.

India is set to face England at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday, followed by a match against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium. The team hopes to manage without Pandya's services for now, with an eager eye on his return for the crucial final matches.
