The India team, which held the top position in the leader board before the finals, in the World Cup fizzled out at the biggest stage and their dream run ended with a loss in the finals against a relentless Australia. Former Australian swashbuckling opener and 3 times World Cup winner Adam Gilchrist term lauded the Australian team’s World Cup campaign for their grit and their ability to bounce back in away conditions. Gilchrist expressed his emotions on 'X' and went on to write, “So proud of this Australian team and crew, to win another World Cup in the manner and circumstance they have is one of the finest victories in our sporting history I reckon. "Time to celebrate” he added.
Hockley praises Australia's victory
Nick Hockley who is the chief executive of Cricket Australia also praised the Pat Cummins-led Australian team for the World Cup win. He stated that winning such a prestigious tournament by beating a dominant Indian side at their home in front of such a massive crowd takes skill and execution of the highest order and the Australian team has it in them to win such a big tournament in such difficult circumstances.
