‘Abey yaar’ – Fans react to Kane Williamson getting injured once again during ODI World Cup 2023

Kane Williamson is more or less ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The Kiwi skipper has been replaced by Tom Blundell after suffering an injury against Bangladesh on Friday.

New Zealand cricket team are currently on top of the world after winning three games in a row. The Kiwis beat Bangladesh by eight wickets on Friday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Kane Williamson the regular skipper was back for the game after missing the first two games. The 33-year-old scored 78 runs before getting retired hurt while chasing 246 to win the game.

The New Zealand skipper was hit on his arm thanks to a wayward throw from Bangladeshi fielders. Williamson threw the bat on the ground and was tended to by the New Zealand medical team before Williamson walked off the field in pain.

There is bad news for the New Zealand cricket team and its fans. Star player and regular skipper Kane Williamson is more or less ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The news comes after Williamson retired hurt while batting on 78. 

It is reported that Williamson will now be out for a month delivering a huge blow to the Kiwis. This means that Tom Latham will now lead the Kiwi side as Williamson is expected to miss most of the ODI World Cup 2023. 

Tom Blundell has been called up as the replacement for the 33-year-old for the rest of the tournament. Kane Williamson had just come back to the team after his serious knee injury during IPL 2023.

Gary Stead the New Zealand coach said “Firstly, we're all feeling for Kane to have this occur after all his hard work to return from his knee injury.”While it's disappointing news, the initial diagnosis has given us some optimism he can still feature later in the pool play following a period of rest and rehabilitation’’

The Kiwi coach further said “Kane is clearly a massive part of our side, and a world-class player and captain - so we'll look to give him every opportunity we can to return in the tournament

New Zealand began the tournament with a win over England in Ahmedabad. This was followed by a win over the Netherlands team in Hyderabad. The Kiwis chased down 246 runs with over 7 overs to go and won by 8 wickets. Williamson scored 78 while Daryl Mitchell scored 89 runs out winning the game with a six.
