The Australian Cricket Team won their 5th game of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. This win now has solidified Australia’s third place in the points table. The latest win for the five-time champions came against England on Saturday in Ahmedabad.

Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to field first as the defending champions needed a win. A win on Saturday will bring England close to the qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. England went in with the same team that played against India last week.

Australia on the other hand made two changes to their team. Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis came in for Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell. The two missed the game due to different reasons. Glenn Maxwell was out injured while Mitchell Marsh had to go back home due to personal reasons.

Australia registers yet another easy win over England –

Asked to bat first, Australia lost their opener Travis Head early when he was out for 11 runs falling to Chris Woakes. Fellow opener David Warner also fell to Woakes caught by David Willey for 15.

Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne combined forces to add 75 runs for the third wicket. Adil Rashid got the big wicket of Steve Smith for 44 caught by Moeen Ali against the run of play. The Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid combination struck once again when Josh Inglis was out for three runs.

Marnus Labuschagne top scored for Australia with 71 runs from 83 as he fell LBW out to Mark Wood. Cameron Green (47) and Marcus Stoinis (35) kept the Australians in the hunt for a score in excess of 275. Adam Zampa then swung his bat to score 29 runs off 19 balls as Australia were all out for 283.

Jonny Bairstow was out first ball when he was out to Mitchell Starc. This was followed by the wicket of Joe Root who was out for 13 to become the 2nd wicket for Mitchell Starc. Dawid Malan and Ben Stokes added 84 runs for the 3rd wicket. Pat Cummins removed the dangerous-looking Malan for 50 off 64 balls.

Ben Stokes scored his first half-century of the tournament before perishing for 64. Moeen Ali tried to fight a lone battle despite the wickets falling at the other end. Chris Woakes batting at number 8 kept the fight going with some crucial runs. Australian bowlers though kept their heads as they held on to win the game in the end.
