Australia won their second game of the ODI World Cup 2023 versus Pakistan by 62 runs on Friday in Bengaluru. The win gave Australia a chance to overtake their opponents and reach the top four in the points table. The star for Australia with the bat was veteran opener David Warner who scored 163 runs.
In the previous game against Sri Lanka, David Warner was unhappy after he was out early. The 36-year-old minced no words when he had a word about his dismissal despite opting to take the DRS.
On Friday the Pakistanis had no chance as David Warner put the entire bowling unit on notice. Post his match-winning knock the Australian opener paid huge credit to his stint in the IPL for the century.
David Warner’s lavish praise for IPL team post his century against Pakistan
The Pakistani team had a huge chance when Shaheen Afridi had David Warner mistiming the ball to offer a simple chance. Usama Mir though made a meal of the chance and dropped the catch. Post that chance David Warner did not look back as he smashed 163 runs from 124 balls with 14 fours and 9 sixes.
After his match-winning knock Warner said “I think that's where in T20 cricket, I've learned a little bit as well to change my gears, especially in IPL. I learned a lot when I was playing for Sunrisers that you're able to have a lot more time than you think”
David Warner also cited Test Cricket as the reason for his ability to switch gears. The 36-year-old said “Having played Test cricket, you can change your gears quite easily. So, in the first 10, two new balls, you got to respect that. But then if you get away, you can be 50 of the first 10. Then from there, you set the platform for yourself and that's the energy you feed off. If you give yourself time at the back end, you can actually score big,"
David Warner with 163 and Mitchell Marsh with 121 helped Australia post a massive 367 runs from their 50 overs. Shaheen Afridi was the star for Pakistan with the ball with figures of 5/54 from his ten overs.
Chasing 368 to win, Pakistan began well with Abdullah Shafique and Imam Ul Haq adding 134 runs for the opening wicket. Shafique was out for 64 and Imam was out next for 70 both falling to Stoinis. Adam Zampa’s 4/53 then swung the game towards Australia who went on to take the game by 62 runs.
