In the recent years, India and Bangladesh have faced each other quite a bit but do you know that this will be the first time that the Bangladeshi Tigers will face team India on their home turf in a World Cup encounter. Bangladesh would be eager to make a mark for their themselves in this historic encounter.
On the other hand, India would not make a mistake of Bangladesh lightly at a World Cup stage as we all know what happened when India last made this mistake back in 2007 and this Bangladesh team also has come a long way since them.
Surprisingly, in recent times Bangladesh has had an upper hand over India by winning 3 out of the last 4 matches they have faced against each other and who would forget the last time both the team faced in the World T20 last year in Australia where Bangladesh almost managed to cross the line. So given the recent track record Rohit Sharma will be aware that there could be no room for complacency if they want to get past this spirited Bangladesh team.
How both the teams fare against each other?
On paper the Bangladesh team looks one of the most balanced team of the tournament with a mix of youth and experience. They have a diverse pace attack from good left-arm seamers in the form of Shoriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman to a good hit the deck bowler in the likes of Taskin Ahmen.
Their spin-attack is also very handy with all their spinners having the ability to bat that gives their team a great balance. But their batting has let them down in this tournament so far and with the exclusion of Tamim Iqbal their top order has looked a bit fragile in this tournament.
Contrastingly, the Indian team’s biggest strength has been their top order so far and since the Asia Cup the middle order conundrum has also been resolved which has left no area of concern for the Indian team apart from the No.8 issue which hasn’t been tested so far.
Rain threat looms over the clash
Both the teams will face other each in the picturesque MCA Stadium in Pune which is known for its sporting wicket that will have something for both the batsmen and bowlers.
But the threat of rain remains a concern for both the teams as they would like to get the crucial 2 point from the game. Yesterday, there were some showers in Pune and the pitch was draped in covers. But we would all like to see both the teams compete in a full 50 overs match today without any rain break.
