In the 28th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, Bangladesh and the Netherlands locked horns in Kolkata. Ahead of the game, the Tigers were coming off four back-to-back losses. On the other hand, the European side was coming off a 309-run mauling against Australia. Meanwhile, in this game, the Orange Brigade won the toss and elected to bat first.

They had a poor start as they lost their both openers, Max O'Dowd and Vikramjit Singh for four runs. At this stage, Wesley Barressi and Colin Ackerman (15) put together 59 runs for the third wicket. After the wicket of the latter, the team was reduced to 107/5. At this stage, skipper Scott Edwards and Sybrand Engelbrecht put together 78 runs.

After the team lost the duo's wickets, Logan van Beek (23*) helped the team reach 229 all-out. For the Green Brigade, the likes of Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mahedi Hasan took two wickets each. On the other hand, skipper Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket.

In reply, the Asian side kept losing wickets and were never in the chase. Five batters failed to get past the double-digit mark. Unlike their game against South Africa, the lower order failed to apply themselves in this small chase. Paul van Meekeren took four wickets while Aryan Dutt, Van Beek, and Ackerman took one wicket each while Bas de Leede took two. In the end, the Tigers were bowled out for 142, losing the game by 87 runs. With this, Bangladesh has become the first team to be ruled out of the semifinal race.
