Jonathan Trott praises Afghanistan players

Afghanistan beat England by 69 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, Ahmedabad. A sensational bowling display from the Afghans made sure they upset the defending world champions on Sunday. Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan were the pick of the bowlers as both the spinners picked three wickets each. Mujeeb was awarded the player of the match as he picked three wickets and scored some 28 runs towards the end of the innings to post 284 runs.

After the match, he dedicated his award to the earthquake victims, who have suffered in Afghanistan. During a conversation, head coach Jonathan Trott complimented all the players in a dressing room for their outstanding performance against England. He was happy about his side's performance as they ended their 14-match losing streak.

Trott conveyed his joy to the players for an all-around performance and asked them to enjoy the night ahead of their next game. He also pointed out the stars of the game. The former English batter indicated fielding as an area of improvement ahead of their next game. But their main problem is that their middle order is yet to perform in this mega event.

I think it'll take a while or hopefully, it takes a little bit that sinks in pretty quickly because we've got to move on quite quickly as well: Jonathan Trott

At the post-match press conference, Trott said, "I think it'll take a while or hopefully it takes a little bit that sinks in pretty quickly because we've got to move on quite quickly. We got a game in Chennai in three days. But I think it's important that the guys enjoy it but also take stock and realise when they get a certain amount of things right in the 50 overs or the 100 overs completely, what they can achieve, and the level of team that they can put under pressure and compete with and win cricket matches."

"So, I think it's very pleasing and there's a lot of confidence that will hopefully come from this when competing against the bigger nations and it'll have a knock-on effect to all the other games, but not only in this World Cup but for the future as well. Just what Afghanistan cricket can achieve."
