Nicholas Pooran has been an inspiring captain for the West Indies team so far. He has given his heart to the team. However, things have not gone as planned. The batter has failed to deliver some wins for the country. Still, he backed his team and said that they will bounce back. Pooran added that they will try to defeat India in the second T20I.

India is currently touring West Indies for a five-match T20I series. The hosts lost the first match by 68 runs. A blitzkrieg start from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and a fast-paced innings from Dinesh Karthik ensured that the team reached 190 at the end of the first innings. On the eve of the second match, Nicholas Pooran said that the team will do all it takes to avenge India.

"Games will happen like this, and we have to put our hands up and say we were outplayed. That’s exactly what happened in the first game, and that’s fine. That’s cricket, that’s sports on a whole, but we know we can compete, and we know how good we are as individuals and I believe we have a really interesting and entertaining T20 team," Pooran said.

Nicholas stressed that a bad game won't make them a bad team. He added that they fought well against England and will emulate the same against India. West Indies made a stunning win against England in the third test match they played earlier this year on March 24. Pooran added further that his team will continue to play entertaining cricket but not at the cost of a loss.

"For me, it’s just about batsmen getting starts. When we do get a start, it’s just for us to carry on – find a way to carry on and make it count. This is only our third T20 together as a team, and in the last 15 T20s, I think this is the worst performance. We knew something like this was going to happen. Unfortunately, it had to be the first game in Trinidad, but we know as a team, we’re going to bounce back," Pooran said.

"Hopefully, everything goes well for us and we keep improving as a group and as bowlers as well," he concluded.

The remaining four T20Is against India will be played on August 1, 2, 6 and 7.
