The announcement of Gautam Gambhir's extension as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has sparked excitement and anticipation among cricket enthusiasts. Gambhir, a former India cricketer and an astute leader, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team.

Gambir has been a mentor for LSG in the previous year as well and led the team to the Playoffs. Formerly, he captained KKR in the IPL where he led the team's success in quenching trophy twice in his captaincy in 2012 and 2014.

There were rumours that Gambhir would likely miss the IPL 2024 due to his political commitment and take a break from cricket. But later, the LSG franchise confirmed his availability and said that he would continue to be the mentor for the franchise.

Fans reacted to this on social media saying that another clash between Gambhir and Kohli awaits as the last time LSG met with RCB, they had a verbal spat on the field. Few have also said that due to his aggressive intent, LSG captain KL Rahul might feel the pressure.

Gautam Gambhir is back in the limelight

Gambir was known for his aggressive nature on the field back in his playing days, as we have seen many of such instances during matches. He was involved in an argument previously during a match against Pakistan while he was playing. In recent times he has yet again been highlighted for this kind of act.

This time during the Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan that got washed out, the former India cricketer, in a viral video, was seen making an inappropriate gesture by showing his middle finger to the crowd. Gambhir justified his action and said that a few Pakistani fans were hurling anti-India slogans and that he reacted like any Indian would react in that situation. He, however, denied that he reacted to ‘Kohli Kohli chants’ from a section of the crowd.
