In a stunning recovery, New Zealand were staring at potentially being dismissed before the 350-run mark. But then an amazing turnaround was orchestrated by the Kiwi tail as Matt Henry and Ajaz Patel steered New Zealand out of troubled waters and took them to 449.

Pakistan and New Zealand squared off against each other at Karachi for the second Test. The Kiwis won the toss and chose to bat. The Kiwis were outstanding with the bat after racking up 309-6 at the end of 90 overs on day 1. Tom Latham made 71 off 100 balls with nine fours. Devon Conway showed why he is a force to reckon with on sub-continent conditions scoring a sumptuous 122 off 191 balls with 16 fours and one six.

Kane Williamson could not replicate his form against Pakistan as he did in the first Test against Pakistan where he scored a fantastic 200 as he was shown the door by Naseem Shah. Agha Salaman then turned the game for Pakistan with his off spin first he took the big wicket of Devon Conway and then picked up Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell.

Tom Blundell scored a hard-fought 51 off 108 balls with six fours. Then Abrar Ahmed and Nassem Shah combined to pick up three wickets between them to reduce New Zealand to 345-9. When it seemed that the Kiwis would fold up early a big twist came around as Matt Henry played a blistering unbeaten knock of 68 off 81 balls with eight fours and two sixes. He found able support in Aijaz Patel who stuck around and made a resilient unbeaten 35 off 78 balls with four fours.

The duo of Henry and Aijaz made a superb 103-run partnership against the Pakistan bowlers, and this left the Pakistanis scratching their heads and looking for an answer. To their dismay, they could not find a way to break this last wicket partnership. This sums up Pakistan cricket. They had the Kiwis on the mat at 345-9 and then they allowed this partnership to settle in and grow till they reached 449. The hurdle has not been overcome as of yet. The Kiwis fighting it out at No 10 and 11 speaks volumes of their batting prowess in Test match cricket.
