Rafael Nadal, the 14-time champion at Roland Garros, is facing concerns over his participation in the upcoming Paris Grand Slam due to a hip injury sustained during the Australian Open in January. As uncertainty looms regarding Nadal's presence, fears are growing that the Spanish tennis superstar may miss the prestigious tournament.

Novak Djokovic, currently ranked number one in the world, spoke highly of his fellow competitor, Carlos Alcaraz, during a press conference in Rome. Djokovic expressed his belief that Alcaraz is deserving of the top ranking, stating, "He's going to be number one after this tournament whatever happens. Deservedly so." He commended Alcaraz for his remarkable performance and impressive level of tennis, asserting that the young player is the one to beat on clay courts without a doubt.

However, Djokovic acknowledged that Alcaraz's chances of claiming the top spot may depend on Nadal's participation in the French Open. Despite the uncertainty, Djokovic emphasized that Alcaraz is undoubtedly one of the leading contenders for the title. Djokovic, who opted out of the American hardcourt swing due to being unvaccinated against COVID-19, expressed his desire to reignite his rivalry with Alcaraz and potentially face him in the final in Rome. Djokovic admitted to losing their only encounter last year in Madrid, a match that went to three sets.

There's always some things here and there- Djokovic

Providing an update on his own physical condition, the 22-time Grand Slam champion revealed that he had overcome a right elbow issue that prevented his participation in Madrid. Djokovic remarked, "It's all good. There's always some things here and there that bother you at this level. It's normal," highlighting the challenges faced as a seasoned player. He acknowledged that recovery takes more time as one grows older, alluding to the fact that he is no longer in his mid-twenties.

As Djokovic prepared to face Tomas Martin Etcheverry later that day, he expressed his enthusiasm for the potential final showdown with Alcaraz, both players keen on the opportunity to compete for the title.
