KL Rahul has not had it easy in the Indian Team since he came back from injury and captained the side in Zimbabwe. His form has been very patchy and inconsistent. People and cricketing pundits have been questioning his place in the side as there have been problems with his strike rate.

In the second ODI, Rahul had taken over the reins of leading the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who left the field after he had a very serious blow to his thumb. Rahul did not captain well and Bangladesh beat India by 5 runs to take the ODIs 2-0. Former India batter Wasim Jaffer spit out the facts and openly questioned Rahul’s captaincy.

“We had good bowlers in Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel. Umran Malik also did well, but Bangladesh had the answers to all the questions. They batted wonderfully well and rotated the strike nicely. It’s difficult when your captain is in (not on the field) and the keeper has to lead. KL Rahul is not a very experienced captain, especially at the international level. That may have had an effect, but that can’t be an excuse. You’ve got to give credit to Bangladesh,” he said in an interaction with Espn Cricinfo.

India have been plagued by injuries and there have been plenty of questions raised concerning the fitness levels of the players. Their commitment to play for the country has also been questioned. It will be interesting to see how the Test side shapes up, considering the fact that the regulars such as Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami will not likely be part of the Test series.

Rohit Sharma, in all likelihood, will not be part of the Test series as he will also not play the third ODI due to an injury on his thumb. He has flown to Mumbai to seek help from the experts. No replacements have been named for the third ODI as it makes little sense to do so after the series has been lost. When it comes to the Test side, reports are saying that Abhimanyu Easwaran will be a likely replacement.
