Chennai Super Kings (CSK) continued their dominance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as they beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 27 runs on Wednesday, May 10 for their seventh win of the tournament. The four-time champions posted 167 runs on the board on a tricky surface, which proved to be more than enough to dent DC's chances of making it to the IPL 2023 playoffs.

Defending a moderate total, Deepak Chahar dealt the first blow to the visitors by dismissing captain David Warner in the second ball of the first over. Philip Salt and Mitchell Marsh looked dangerous, but Chahar took his second wicket of the night by removing the former for 17 runs in the third over. Manish Pandey and Rilee Rossouw stitched a brilliant partnership before Marsh's horrible run-out in the fourth over.

Manish and Rossouw put on a 59-run fourth-wicket stand, which did not affect the opponent much because it came at a run-a-ball. The onslaught began with pacers, but the CSK spinners kept the pace going and restricted them to 140-8. Matheesha Pathirana was a bit expensive, but the Sri Lankan pacer claimed three crucial wickets in the process.

Dhoni, Jadeja cameos help CSK cross 165

Earlier, DC bowlers did well to keep things under control till the 19th over where they leaked 21 runs. MS Dhoni's superb cameo in the penultimate over propelled the side to a respectable score of 167 on a surface that favoured pace off and spinners. Mr. Consistent Devon Conway failed and was followed by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who seemed promising until he was dismissed for 24 on the first ball after the powerplay.

The hosts lost a couple of wickets of Moeen Ali and Ajinkya Rahane, but big-hitter Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu played a short cameo to keep them in the contest. Both were quickly sent back and with the scoreboard reading 126-6 in 16.2 overs, the target CSK could have been aiming for was 150. However, Ravindra Jadeja's 16-ball 21 and Dhoni's quick-fire 9-ball 20 took them past 165.
