Mumbai recorded a resounding win over UP in the Eliminator match of the Women's T20 League 2023 to advance to the final against Delhi on Sunday. The Women in Blue dominated throughout the tournament and did not hesitate to put up another clinical performance in the crucial encounter, where they beat the Lucknow-based franchise by 72 runs at the DY Patil Stadium on Friday, March 24.

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side thrashed the opposition in both batting and bowling departments, with match-winning displays from two English cricketers - Nat Sciver-Brunt and Issy Wong. Batting first after losing the toss, Mumbai did not get off to a good start as the UP bowlers restricted their batting unit to 69-2 in 9.1 overs. But a blistering half-century knock (72* off 38 balls) from Sciver-Brunt and handy contributions from Melie Kerr (29 off 19) and Pooja Vastrakar (11* off 4) towards end of the innings gave them a formidable total in a knockout game.

Sciver-Brunt, who won the Player of the Match award for her all-round performance, was dropped when she was on 6 by Sophie Ecclestone. The 30-year-old made the opposition pay dearly in her second life, smashing the UP bowlers around the park with nine fours and two sixes. Ecclestone conceded 39 runs in her four overs but managed to take two wickets, while Anjali Sarwani and Parshavi Chopra picked up one wicket each.

Mumbai pacer Issy Wong creates history

While Sciver-Brunt stole the show in the first innings, Issy Wong was the highlight in the second innings with a four-wicket haul, including a hat-trick. England's right-arm pacer etched her name in the history books by taking the first hat-trick of the WTL by dismissing Kiran Navgire, Simran Shaikh and Sophie Ecclestone in back-to-back deliveries in the 13th over.

Chasing a huge total of 183, everyone expected the UP batters to come out all guns blazing. But Alyssa Healy's team couldn't get off to a good start, losing 3 wickets in the powerplay. Navgire fought back but became the first victim of Wong's hat-trick journey after scoring 43 runs off 27 balls. Mumbai bowlers dominated the show as none of the other batters played a responsible innings and were bowled out for 110 in just 17.4 overs.

Sunday's final will be a thriller as two of the best teams in the tournament go head-to-head. Delhi, who were progressing unbeaten in the tournament, tasted their first defeat by 8 wickets against Mumbai. But when the two met for the second time, Meg Lanning's team took revenge by winning by 9 wickets.
