Australian preparations for the high-octave test series against India have again dealt a significant blow. With star pacer Mitchell Starc already being ruled out for the first Test at Nagpur, his partner-in-crime Josh Hazlewood has followed the same route. Australia will be without two of their frontline bowlers as they try to nick back the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).

During the recently held Australia Cricket Awards, Starc hinted about his finger injury sustained during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at the MCG. When asked about his availability for the first Test, the left-armer said,

"I am track..still a couple of weeks and then probably meet the guys in Delhi..after..hopefully, a first Test match win..get myself into training over there."

Josh Hazlewood could not take an active part in the training camp

To add to Australian woes, Josh Hazlewood, another of Australia's mainstays in their pace arsenal, couldn't take an active part in their training camp ahead of the Tests against India at Alur in Karnataka. Reportedly, he has not fully recovered from his Achilles injury on the left leg, which he picked up after bowling the Sydney Test against South Africa last month.

However, Hazlewood's injury opens the door for Scott Boland to play his first overseas Test. The 33-year-old was impressive in the two Tests he played against South Africa at home.

"Not sure about the first Test. It's still a few days away, but it's sneaking up pretty quickly. The second one is obviously straight after as well. So, we'll play it by ear over the next week and next few days, and hopefully, Tuesday goes well," the speedster said before Australia's final training session at the KSCA Stadium on Sunday.

Fans on Twitter have reacted to this significant update. While some think this would be a major blow for the Aussies, some believe that Pat Cummins alone would be enough trouble for the Indians. Fans have also compared Australia's injury woes to India's condition ahead of the Gabba Test in the last series. Notably, the Indians managed to breach the Kangaroos' fortress with a comfortable three-wicket win.
