India won the first Test against Bangladesh by 188 runs on Sunday in Chattogram. Kuldeep Yadav made an impact with the ball by picking up eight wickets in the match. Along with Kuldeep, the other bowler who has made an impression was Axar Patel as he picked up 5 wickets in the match.
Axar Patel has been doing a great job for Team India in Test cricket ever since his amazing debut series against England. He has been in the side as the second spinner and has worked well in combination with Ravichandran Ashwin in Test cricket. He, often, fills in for Jadeja and performes his role to perfection.
On Sony Sports , Ajay Jadeja lauded Axar Patel and also highlighted upon his sensational average in Test Cricket.
"All players are good. In fact, his (Axar's) numbers are the best. What he did in this first match, whether he played in India, and the one match he got overseas now, his numbers are the best. He had an average of 12 in India, even Ashwin does not have that, no bowler has it in India."
Both Axar and Jadeja are good in their own right - Ajay Jadeja
"It is extremely difficult to pick between the two. Both are left-armers and it is not that they have different skills. Kuldeep Yadav beats the batters in the air, both of them beat the batters from the surface. They need the surface."
Axar has shown that he can deliver the goods at the Test level. He has taken 44 wickets at an average of 13. Out of the 44 wickets that he has taken, 39 have come at home. He has also talked about an attribute that could help him choose between the two spinners.
"There is no better bowler than both of them when the surface is dangerous but if the surface is flat and there is no help from the surface, then who is better between the two, that will be one factor to decide."
"Ravindra has scored big runs in batting and Axar has shown potential. There is no comparison in fielding. Do a transition if you feel someone will get better. If you feel the game is what you have seen for the last two to four years, then go with today's performance." Jadeja added.
