Niroshan Dickwella appointed captain of Colombo Strikers for Lanka Premier League 2023

Colombo Strikers, the franchise based in Colombo, which is making its maiden appearance in Lankan Premier League 2023, has announced Niroshan Dickwella as their captain. The squad features some big names in T20 cricket like Babar Azam, Matheesha Pathirana, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Chamika Karunaratne, and many others.   

The wicketkeeper batter is an experienced campaigner in T20 cricket. The Southpaw has 115 games in T20 cricket and scored 2179 runs as a batter. With the gloves, the 30-year-old has claimed 65 catches and inflicted 21 stumpings.   

Dickwella expressed his honour to captain some great names of the game. “I feel extremely honoured to be the Captain of the Colombo Strikers. We have a terrific side with several superstars such as Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Matheesha Pathirana. We'll certainly give the freedom to all the cricketers to play their natural game. We are looking forward to a fantastic season," said Dickwella on being appointed as the captain of the new franchise.

Colombo Strikers' owner Sagar Khanna said, "Niroshan Dickwella is an experienced campaigner, and he knows the local players well. He will certainly be able to get the best out of all the cricketers in the team. I would like to wish him and the team all the very best for the season." and hoped for a successful season for Strikers.  

The Lankan premier league 2023 will take place from July 30th to August 20th. Five teams will compete against each other to claim the title. In the inaugural match of the season, Colombo Strikers will be playing their maiden game in the league against Jaffna Kings on 20th July in Colombo.
