The star Indian batter, Cheteshwar Pujara, is currently out of the Indian side as he was not included in the Two Test match series against the West Indies. Pujara recently scored a ton for the Sussex side in the ongoing One Day Cup against Somerset, and eventually, his innings helped his side win by four wickets. Earlier, he was dropped from the Indian side after the failed voyage against Australia in the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) Final.

In the interview with Sussex, the 35-year-old opened up about his chances to make a comeback on the Indian side and said he still believes in making a comeback and joining the team in the future if he keeps scoring runs in the First- Class cricket. The right-handed batter is aware of the fact that Team India is not going to play a longer format of the game before December, they will be against South Africa for the overseas tour.

I’ll just try and be in the present, try and take one game at a time: Cheteshwar Pujara

"I always try and control the things that I can, and it’s always about getting as many runs as possible in whatever games I play. I am still in the scheme of things (for India), so I hope that the moment I start scoring runs in first-class games, I’ll be back into the team, but I’ll just try and be in the present, try and take one game at a time,” told Pujara on Sussex's YouTube channel.

"The next Test series is in South Africa in December so there is a long way to go, but I’ll try and focus on the next few games and then try and move into the Championships because we have a few important Championships games coming up in September. We have a chance to qualify and that’s the prime focus for us,” he further added.

It is pertinent to mention that India will be playing the final and fifth T20I against the West Indies at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, on August 13. Whereas the Hardik Pandya-led side, after winning the last game of the series, levelled it at 2-2.
