Royal Challengers Bangalore was defeated by Chennai Super Kings by 8 runs in the southern Derby of the Indian Premier League 2023 on Monday. Both teams managed to post huge totals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, but RCB fell eight runs short of the 227-run target that they were chasing. Two illustrious former India captains, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, reunited on the field during the game.

After a difficult victory, CSK captain MS Dhoni spent some time with Virat Kohli. The Indian Premier League published a video of the interaction between two superstars. While interacting with Dhoni, Kohli could be seen laughing aloud in the footage. After a day, Kohli also posted an image of his interaction with MS Dhoni.

Notably, the two led Indian cricket for about 20 years and were the most successful captains India has ever had. While Kohli led the Indian Test squad to unprecedented heights, Dhoni had an unmatched record and level of consistency in ICC competitions.

Earlier in the match, RCB captain Faf du Plessis chose to bowl first after winning the toss. He appeared to have made the right choice because Mohammad Sirajย bowled out the in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad for just three runs. But this was the only instance when RCB experienced relief as other CSK hitters began pummeling bowlers all around the park. Ajinkya Rahane and Devon Conway scored 74 runs together for the second wicket, giving CSK a sizable total.

Before being dismissed by Wanindu Hasranga, Rahane scored 37 runs off 20 balls. Conway and Shivam Dube combined 80 runs off 37 balls for the third wicket after his departure. Conway and Dube each scored fifty-plus scores, enabling CSK to reach a staggering total of 226/6 in just 20 overs. Conway scored 83 runs off 45 balls during his innings, while Dube scored 52 runs off 27 balls.

Chasing 227 was difficult, and RCB got off to a great start. Virat Kohli, the opener, was out in the opening over, and Mahipal Lomror shortly followed. By the time Maxwell joined captain du Plessis in the middle, RCB had been reduced to 15-2. As they scored 126 runs for the third wicket, two international superstars played incredible innings.

Maxwell scored 76 runs off 36 balls during his innings, while du Plessis pounded out 62 runs off 33 balls. Following their dismissal, RCB was unable to capitalise on the start and lost by a slim margin. CSK is, presently, in third place in the points standings after their third victory of the year.
