Immediately after Zimbabwe won against Pakistan, the win was also making wonderful headlines but along with that, something else was also hogging the limelight. On that eventful evening, Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa put out a congratulatory message but also ended it by taking a jibe at Pakistan saying “Next time, send the real Mr Bean.”
After some time there was a strong reply from Pakistan Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif saying “We may not have the real Mr. Bean, but we have real cricketing spirit …”. Asif Muhammad, a Pakistan comedian, went to Zimbabwe in 2016 pretending to be Mr Bean, although the character was originally played by English actor Rowan Atkinson. Muhammad was watching how things took shape from his home in Karachi.
“I am a duplicate but if the Zimbabwe President and Pakistan PM can talk about me wishing each other after Zimbabwe’s win, my motive of making the world laugh is fulfilled. There were some funny words exchanged after Pakistan’s loss because of me. What more can I ask for?” Muhammad told The Indian Express.
There was a lot of talk about him on social media as ahead of the match, a Zimbabwe fan Ngugi Chasura tweeted: “As Zimbabweans, we won’t forgive you. You once gave us that Fraud Pak Bean instead of Mr Bean Rowan. We will settle the matter tomorrow. Just pray that rain doesn’t save you.”
Asif Muhammad said that he likes watching Virat Kohli bat
This fan was referring to a trip in 2016 which was undertaken by Muhammad to Zimbabwe. He on the invitation of two Indian businessmen came to an agricultural exhibition held there.
“When the businessmen Muhammad Arif and Muhammad Anees discussed the idea of having me as the brand ambassador in the exhibition in Harare, I was delighted. To meet kids in markets and streets in Harare and seeing them believe I was the real Mr. Bean was my biggest earning from that trip. The hospitality was amazing as he was given watertight security by the city council.
He said that he was a cricket lover and a huge fan of Javed Miandad and Shahid Afridi. He also said that he loved watching Virat Kohli wield the willow. He had also done an advertisement with Afridi in which he portrayed Mr Bean.
