Left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan had a fantastic run for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, scooping up 14 wickets from 9 matches at an economy rate of under six. His stellar showing surely knocked the doors of the Indian cricket team selectors, but an unfortunate injury forced him to miss the entire domestic season and even raised concerns about his future as a fast bowler.

However, the 24-year-old was not ready to give up his dream for any setbacks and made a brave return to the field in the 16th edition of the cash-rich league. Mohsin got to bowl this season against Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 7, 12 months after his last outing in a competitive cricket match. But the comeback didn't go down well with the youngster as he conceded 42 runs and was therefore dropped from the next game against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

The Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer was picked again in LSG's crucial match against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday (May 16). Mohsin's start would have disappointed the LSG camp, as he was struck for 20 runs in his first two overs. He was taken out of the attack, but he had to deliver when MI needed only 11 runs in the final over, with big hitters Tim David and Cameron Green in the middle.

Mohsin bowled his first three balls away from the batters, and when the winning equation reached 9 off 3 balls, the youngster nailed two perfect Yorkers to seal the victory for the home team by 5 runs. LSG won the match to move up to third on the points table and ensure they are on track to enter the IPL play-off round for the second time in a row.

Apart from his injury woes, Mohsin was also dealing with a family issues, as his father was admitted to the ICU for the last 10 days and was only discharged a day before his match-winning performance. Speaking at the post-match presentation, India's rising star said that his father would have been watching the game and that he dedicated his performance to him.

"It's been a tough time as I was injured, playing after a year. My father got discharged from the ICU yesterday and he was in the hospital for the last 10 days and I did it for him, he would have been watching," Moshin said.

Talking about his last-over brilliance, Mohsin said, "The plan was to execute what I did in practice. Even Krunal was talking to me and I told him the same.

"I'm grateful to the team and the support staff, Gautam (Gambhir) sir, Vijay (Dahiya) sir for playing me this game even though I did not do well in the last game," he added.
