Former India captain Ajay Jadeja has suggested India to play more all-rounders in the white-ball format. The 51-year-old feels that having more all-rounders in the playing XI provides the captain with more bowling options.

The former cricketer pointed out that MS Dhoni had enough options in the form of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Suresh Raina to name a few.

“If I have five bowlers and I am playing, you know exactly, either I will bowl X, Y, or Z. So, you can plan as an opposition, but if I have seven-eight bowlers who could bowl at different stages. How does the opposition plan against you?” said Jadeja.

“So, you run the game. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was a champion at it. There’ll be days that Ravindra didn’t bowl a single ball,” claimed the former player.

Jadeja suggested that today's all-rounders can bat well

He suggested that current all-rounders can bat well enough to have them in the team.

“Say, if you put in all four Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja>, you can play all four. What’s wrong with that? Because they can all bat well enough.”

He also proclaimed that it could make bowling a little weaker but that is a risk team should make in order to be unreadable.

“It’s just a wild thought. You can even add another all-rounder, say, bowler all-rounder, Ashwin kind of a person as well. The problem is that you still keep the top five-six batsmen, then add these guys as all-rounders and the bowling is a little weaker," concluded Ajay Jadeja.

India recently won a T20I series against Sri Lanka by a 2-1 margin under Hardik Pandya. The Men in Blue will now clash against Sri Lanka in a 3-match ODI series starting January 10th.
