The Chess Olympiad is presently underway in Chennai, India. The event will conclude on August 9 and the Chief Minister of the State, Shri MK Stalin will be making his presence felt. Indian chess champion Viswanathan Anand will also be making his presence felt at the event.
The Chess Olympiad event witnessed many teams participate for the first time as the Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the event on August 28. The event got off to a great start with stars performing and a huge classical event reflecting the culture of the host city.
The entire city was highlighted with advertisement boards, the iconic Horse icon and the famous Napier Bridge. The bridge was painted like a chess board. It attracted huge attention and most of the bridges in the city showcased the love for chess.
Meanwhile, Former India captain and wicket-keeper MS Dhoni has been invited to the closing ceremony. The Chennai hero will be the main attraction of the event. Arkady Dvorkovich, president of the International Chess Federation, will also be a part of the event. The fans are already excited to welcome their cricketing hero. Dhoni is their Indian T20 league star as he plays for the Chennai team.
Dommaraju Gukesh attracted huge attention with his exceptional skills and talent in the event. Young grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa tried his best too. Gukesh, on the other hand, won eight games straight for India 2 until the streak was broken by Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov. The youngster received praise for the streak and many chess champions lauded the Chennai-born kid.
India B team was considered to be the best team for India and D Gukesh justified the same with his skills. With the event coming to an end, all big guns will be making it to the closing ceremony. The young stars who stayed in Chennai and enjoyed the warmth of the city will enjoy the same for one last time. Budapest, Hungary will host the next Chess Olympiad event followed by Uzbekistan in 2026.
