Meanwhile, MS Dhoni will be seen back in action in the next year’s Indian T20 League. Ahead of the season, there have been many speculations on the retirement of the World Cup-winning captain from all forms of cricket. Dhoni had previously revealed in an interview that he will happily retire after playing his final game for the Chennai Franchise at their home ground M. Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

With the Indian T20 League set to take place in the home and away format next year, the season could well turn out to be the last one for the 41-year-old veteran. Under Dhoni’s leadership, Chennai have clinched four titles in the Indian T20 League and are the second most successful franchise after Mumbai.

After finishing at the 9th position in the points table last season, Chennai will be looking for a dramatic turnaround and give a winning farewell to the ‘Captain Cool’.

Chennai rope-in Ben Stokes in Indian T20 League mini-auction

In the recent mini-auction, Chennai roped in seven new players ahead of the 2023 season. England’s World Cup-winning all-rounder Ben Stokes was signed by Chennai for Rs 16.25 crore. Stokes became the third-most expensive player in the history of the Indian T20 League.

Meanwhile, Pant, after the completion of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, flew off to Dubai to take part in the Boxing Day celebrations. The 25-year-old recently played a brilliant knock of 93 in the second Test as India clinched a three-wicket win over Bangladesh.

Pant’s form has been under scrutiny in the limited overs format however, the southpaw has been performing consistently in Test Cricket and has cemented his place in the team.
