The Vijay Hazare Trophy continues to bring records and allow for older ones to be broken. A few days ago, Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan scored the highest List A individual run of all time with his 277 in 141 balls against Arunachal Pradesh.
On Monday, another such blistering innings was played in Vijay Hazare Trophy that has sent fans buzzing. In the match against Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, 25-year-old batter Ruturaj Gaikwad played a sensational knock of 220 in 159 balls.

That however is not even the best part of his knock. The best part came in the 49th over of the first innings when Gaikwad hit 7 sixes in one over!
Playing at 165 off 147, Gaikwad hits Shiva Singh from the very first ball of the 49th over. The first two sixes were hit on mid-on, whereas the third was hit on mid-wicket. On the fourth ball, Gaikwad hit a six in the mid-off area. Having already hit four sixes in four balls, Shiva Singh was under intense pressure. In the heat of the moment, he bowled stepped outside of the crease on the fifth ball and was smashed for a six again. The next ball which was a free hit got the same treatment and was sent outside of the boundary line as well.
Playing at 195 at 152, Ruturaj was in no mood to bring out his double century with caution. On the sixth ball, Gaikwad hit another six at mid-wicket and brought out his double century in style. The last ball was an opportunity to create a six-hitting record never been attempted before and Ruturaj succeeded in doing so. He hit the last ball for a six again making it 7 sixes in 6 balls.
He hit two more sixes in the next over to take his individual score to 220 off 159. In his record-breaking innings, he hit 10 fours and 16 sixes and played at a strike rate of 138.36. He has been retained by Channel franchise in the Indian T20 League.
Twitter was understandably buzzing after watching an Indian batter smash bowlers all across the field in a nonchalant manner.
