The Indian Cricket Team had failed to reach yet another semi-final at the 20-20 World Cup 2022 as they came crashing down against England by 10 wickets. This is the fifth time they have crumbled under pressure in a semi-final match across formats having made it to the top four.

The board is willing to address this issue and according to reports, the Indian Cricket Board plans to send an urgent call to Mahendra Singh Dhoni for a bigger role in the Indian T20 setup. As per reports, the board wants to put Dhoni in a full-time role in the Indian Cricket Setup.

According to a report by the Telegraph, The Indian Cricket Board has a feeling that it is very taxing on Rahul Dravid to manage to be a coach in all three formats. Due to this reason the Indian Cricket Board is mulling on splitting the coaching roles. The board wants to keep Dhoni in T20 cricket so that he will use his cricketing brain and acumen to give the Indian Team a new direction in the shortest format.

The appointment could happen at the Apex Council meeting

According to the report, the issue will be debated at length at the apex council meeting which will be held later on in the month. Dhoni has been one of the most successful captains for India having won three trophies in World Tournaments under his reign. He took India to the number one test ranking during his stint as captain as well.

Dhoni worked as a mentor for the Indian Cricket Team in the 2021 World Cup but his appointment at that point in time could not change the fortunes of the Men in Blue as they crashed out of the multilateral tournament in the first round itself.

The report also claims that Dhoni might bid adieu from the game after the upcoming edition of the Indian T20 League and that he will be asked to groom a certain set of players which would help the Indian T20 side get a new lease of life and give India a new direction when it comes to the shortest format of the game.
