Virat Kohli has been in wonderful form off late. He had a wonderful Asia Cup in 2022 and even though it was in the 20-20 format he had a wonderful multilateral tournament where he scored 276 runs at an average of 92 and a strike rate of 147.59. He was the second-highest run scorer in the tournament. Then Virat carried his form there into the 20-20 World Cup in Australia. He scored his maiden T20 century against Afghanistan in the tournament.

In the 20-20 World Cup in Australia, he scored 296 from six innings at an average of 98.66 and a strike rate of 136.40. He had 4 fifties to his name. He showed the world that he was back in business after he scored an unbeaten 82 against Pakistan in the 20-20 World Cup opener. While he was doing well in the shortest format, he was not doing so well in the ODI format where he had not scored a hundred for three years since 2019.

He set out to erase the monkey off his back in the third ODI against Bangladesh, where he scored a superb sublime innings of 113 off 91 balls with 11 fours and two sixes. This was a typical Kohli innings, where he took his time, and then as the innings progressed, he played a lot of free-flowing cover drives and the lofted shots also started coming in.

This hundred will ease a lot of pressure off Kohli as it has come after a long time, and it also answers the call of the critics at a time when he has been under pressure to deliver in the ODIs. Interestingly Kohli has also played very few ODIs. This hundred will hopefully help Kohli get back to his free-scoring ways in ODIs as it used to happen before.

This was Kohli's 72nd international century and he has scored an ODI hundred after a gap of 1213 days he also overtook Ricky Ponting's tally of 71 hundred. He now comes second to being behind Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 100 International hundreds.
