Former Indian captain, Mohammad Azharuddin has liked India Cricket Board’s decision to include both Ishan Kishan and Sarfaraz Khan for the first two Tests of the upcoming Border Gavaskar series against Australia.

Following his impressive performance in the white-ball series, Suryakumar Yadav has been added to India’s Test squad. With him, Ishan Kishan has also received his maiden Test call-up in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

“When the player is in form, it’s not right to have them on the bench. Suryakumar Yadav has the potential to play for the Indian team in all three formats. He has also done well in his last Ranji match. As much as I have seen Suryakumar’s batting, I can say that like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he too can also play in all three formats. After a long time, India has got such a batsman who can play in all formats," Azhar told PTI.

In addition to that, he also mentioned that both Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan will have to consistently score runs for long period to cement their place in the Test team.

It is very difficult to make a place in the team and both these players will have to prove themselves, if they find a place in the team,” the former Indian skipper added.

India will next be playing a three-match T20I and ODI series against New Zealand. The three ODIs are scheduled to be played on 18th, 21st, and 24th January 2023. The two teams will then lock horns in three T20 internationals. The first two matches will be played on the 27th and 29th of January, while the third and final match of the series will be played on 1st of February 2023.

Following the series, they will lock horns with Australia in a four-match Test series.
