India won the first Test against the West Indies pretty comfortably by an innings and 141 runs on the third day of the Test. The visiting side now has a lead of 1-0 in the series against the home side after a huge win in Dominica. It is India’s biggest victory away from home in terms of innings and runs.

India started the third day after being 312/2. Jaiswal continued his good run and scored 171(387) before getting dismissed by Alzarri Joseph. Virat Kohli scored 76(182), aided by Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 37(82). India declared their innings for 421/5 after Virat was dismissed. A lead of 271 runs was already a bit too much for the home side.

Spin duo of India at the job

In the second innings, Indian bowlers, especially the spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja just ran through the batting lineup of the West Indies. While Jadeja claimed the wickets of Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Raymon Reiffer, Ashwin bowled a brilliant spell and claimed a 7-wicket haul with the ball.

The right-arm off-spinner claimed a total of 12 wickets in the match. 12/131 by Ashwin is the best figure for an Indian spinner on Caribbean soil. The 36-year-old has 8 five-wicket hauls in Tests, the joint most for an Indian bowler along with Anil Kumble.

No matter from the home side could do anything about the Indian spin duo. Only two batters from the West Indies reached 20 or more runs. The clinical performance from India fetched them 12 points in the World Test Championship of the 2023-25 cycle.

Yashasvi Jaiswal got the Player of the Match award for his great innings with the bat on his debut. The youngster actually scored more runs in his stay in the middle than the entire batting lineup of the West Indies in both innings. The Southpaw faced exactly the same number of deliveries as West Indies did in their first innings, and a lot more than West Indies did in the second innings.
