England finally ended Australia’s winning streak as they lost their first ODI match in 22 months. The hosts defeated Australia by 2 wickets in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Gloucestershire Cricket Stadium in Bristol. Batting first, Australia posted 263 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs. In reply, England chased the winning total in 48.1 overs losing 8 wickets.

Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry took charge of the Australian inning after the skipper Alyssa Healy went back to the pavilion in the first over of the match with a score of just 8 runs. Litchfield and Perry added 61 runs for the second wicket before Litchfield got out after scoring 34 runs off balls hitting seven boundaries. After that, Perry and Beth Mooney added 37 runs for the third wicket. Perry got out after a well-made 41 runs off 51 with six boundaries.

After that, Mooney took charge of the innings and made crucial partnerships with Tahila McGrath, Ashleigh Gardner, and Jess Jonnasen as Australia scored past 260 runs. She remained unbeaten on 81 runs off 99 deliveries hitting six boundaries. For England, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Lauren Bell took 2 wickets each. While Kate Cross, Sophie Ecclestone, Alice Capsey and Sarah Glenn shared a wicket each.

Heather Knight's captain's knock took England home

Chasing the winning total, England had their first wicket in the form of Sophia Dunkley at the score of 29 runs in 3.2 overs. After that, Tamsin Beaumont and Alice Capsey put up a 74-run partnership for the second wicket. Beaumont got out after scoring 47 runs off 42 balls with eight fours and a six. A couple of overs later, Capsey also lost her wicket after scoring 40 runs off 34 balls.

After that, the skipper Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt added 42 runs for the fourth wicket, before Brunt was dismissed by Jess Jonassen in the 27th over. Knight took the innings further with wickets falling at regular intervals and remained unbeaten on 75 runs off 86 balls scoring six fours and a six. At last, England chased the target with 2 wickets left and 11 balls to spare.
