Mohammad Rizwan has had a 20-20 World Cup to forget as he has made only 175 runs in seven innings. He has an average of 25 and a strike rate of 109.37. He has scored only one fifty in the tournament. The Pakistan batter was seen as the man to provide strong starts but failed to do so in an important game for the Men in Green. The wicketkeeper batter scored only 15 runs in the 20-20 World Cup final.
Rizwan was in great form in the Asia Cup 2022 where he scored 281 runs in six matches with a highest score of 78. He had an average of 56.20 and was striking them at 117.57. Rizwan also had three half-centuries to his credit and was the highest run-scorer in the multilateral tournament. But he could not replicate the form in the showpiece event. He was also criticized by cricketing experts from Pakistan for not batting for the team’s cause.
He has also been under fire for scoring at a slow rate which, at times, has put pressure on the middle order for Pakistan. Even in the match against Bangladesh, he was guilty of taking a lot of time to score the runs. Pakistan were actually in a precarious position at one stage against Bangladesh but, fortunately, won by 5 wickets due to the heroics of Mohammad Harris and Shaan Masood.
Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistan skipper, had also slammed Mohammad Rizwan for not having enough game awareness. Afridi also went on to say that Rizwan played only one way and that the bowlers had found him out.
When there were comparisons of Rizwan with Suryakumar Yadav, Afridi again said that he had no right to be compared to the Indian batting sensation as he had not played enough first-class cricket before getting selected into the Pakistan team.
Rizwan was also in good form in the Tri-Series that Pakistan played in New Zealand before the 20-20 World Cup but could not replicate it when Pakistan needed it the most.
Babar Azam also had a 20-20 World Cup to forget as he has scored only 124 runs in seven innings. He made only one-half century in the tournament at an average of 17.71 and a strike rate of 93.23. He has also been guilty of batting very slowly and increasing the burden of the middle order. Babar scored a laborious 32 off 28 in the 20-20 World Cup final.
