The announcement of a reserve day for the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan cricket match on 10th September has sparked both excitement and controversy among fans and experts alike. The decision to allocate an additional day, 11th September, is a testament to the significance of this rivalry and the importance of ensuring a fair competition.
There have been suggestions to move the event out of Colombo and hold it in Hambantota ever since last weekend's group stage match between India and Pakistan was postponed due to heavy rain. The ACC, however, stuck to the original schedule, and with heavy rain predicted for the weekend matches—Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh on Saturday and India vs Pakistan on Sunday—the organizers chose to add a reserve day only for the latter match, which also happens to be a high-profile contest that generates a lot of money from the perspective of broadcasters.
“A reserve day has been incorporated for the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4’s match between India and Pakistan scheduled to take place on 10th September at Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. If adverse weather suspends play during the Pakistan vs India game, the match will continue on 11th September from the point it was suspended,” the ACC said in a statement.
India & Pakistan yet to meet in Asia Cup finals
Although there have been many exciting matches between India and Pakistan over their long history of confrontations, it is surprising that they have never met in an Asia Cup final. India has an advantage of 7-5 in prior Asia Cup matches, and this event is the 16th edition of the continental competition.
Pakistan has just twice been declared winners, compared to The Men in Blue's seven (the most) victories in the illustrious continental championship. The only other team to have won the competition is Sri Lanka, which has done so six times, including in the T20 format last year. The last three meetings between Team India and their bitter rivals in one-day internationals have all ended in victories, with two of those victories being at the 2018 Asia Cup.
Look how fans reacted:
It is absolutely certain that Pakistan will lose and the people of Pakistan will keep crying day and night.
