Arsenal had a rare bad outing on Thursday as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League. In a very rare instance, no one from the team could produce a stellar performance. However, despite that, they managed to qualify from the group as the Gunners had already won their first four matches before arriving at Eindhoven.

Meanwhile, Martin Keown has come out hard at Rob Holding for not helping his teammate Kieran Tierney in the game against Eindhoven. Luuk de Jong, who stands at 6’2, outjumped Tierney to find the net and, thereby, help the team score the second goal of the night.

Keown reckons that it was Holding who needed to mark the tall Dutchman. Instead, he was marking none of the players at that time.

“Tierney doesn’t even get off the ground, I don’t know why he was marking him. If I’m Holding I would make myself available to help him but he didn’t do that either.” Keown said.

Notably, Holding was trying to challenge de Jong but the latter jumped earlier and, as a result, had the benefit, which led to a massive result in the game. It would be safe to say that Arsenal exhibited one of the worst performances of this season against PSV Eindhoven. The defenders looked disoriented, the forwards weren’t effective and the mid-fielders too didn’t make an impact either.

“Now it is time to analyse what happened,” said the Arsenal manager. “We were nowhere near our level. When you play like that against the top teams it is very difficult to win. We were extremely poor.”

Joey Veerman and Luuk de Jong were the ones who found the net for the home side. The result keeps the Europa League group alive until next week’s final fixtures.
