New Zealand's star opener Martin Guptill has now accumulated a total of 3,399 runs with a high score of 105 in T20Is to become the highest run-getter in the shortest format. Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, has 3,379 runs with a high score of 118 to his name. He is the second highest run-scorer in the format.
The latter has played 12 more innings than the New Zealand batter. Martin Guptill is currently playing for his national team against Scotland. On the other hand, the Indian Skipper will mark his return to the T20Is for the series against West Indies.
India will take on West Indies for a five-match T20I series to be played on July 29, August 1,2,6 and 7. The first T20I will be played at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. Warner Park Basseterre, St Kitts will host the second and third T20Is. Central Broward Park Lauderhill, Florida will host the last two T20Is.
This gives Rohit Sharma an immense opportunity to become the highest run-getter once again. If Rohit has a good T20I series, then he will be at the top once again. Guptill scored 40 runs off 31 balls in the first T20I against Scotland. His innings included 4 fours and 2 sixes. Fin Allen scored a quick-fire century. He scored 101 runs off 56 balls at a strike rate of 180.4. His innings included 8 fours and 6 sixes. New Zealand posted a mammoth 225 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets. Scotland did try to fight back and struggled to get past 157 at the end of 20 overs.
New Zealand won the match by 68 runs. And the second T20I will be played at the same venue tomorrow. New Zealand will also play a one-off ODI against Scotland on July 31st. With a match under his belt, Guptill will look to score as many runs as possible. However, the chances are very high for Rohit Sharma as he is all set to play a five-match T20I series against the Caribbean.
Rohit Sharma might reclaim the number one spot in the middle or at the end of the T20I series. The competition between the two is steady, friendly and all sporty.
