Mark Boucher is set to begin a new chapter in his coaching career as he has signed up to coach the Mumbai franchise in the Indian T20 League. This development happened just before the 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He replaced Mahela Jayawardene who is now the global performance head for Mumbai.

Boucher's stint with the South African side came to an end after the 20-20 World Cup. He has had a good coaching career having previously coached the Kolkata side as a wicket-keeping coach. He said that he is looking forward to working with Rohit Sharma and charting the roadmap for Mumbai this season.

I am really looking forward to coaching Mumbai: Boucher

"It’s going to be quite interesting. I have played against Rohit before. I think he is a fantastic player and a good leader as well, so I’m really looking forward to it. Looking forward to sitting down and having a chat with him. I think we have one or two things in common." "I know he likes conservation, so that will be an interesting chat as well. So yeah, I think there are certain ways that I coach and it will be an interesting conversation to have with him."

The five-time Indian T20 League champions have not had smooth sailing in the Indian T20 League in the 2021 and 2022 editions. In 2021 they finished fifth and missed the playoff race narrowly where they were struck on 14 points and were pipped by Kolkata due to a higher Net run rate. and then in 2022 they hit rock bottom with just four wins from 14 games and finished last on the points table.

"There is always expectations. It is one of the best franchises in world sport. And with that comes a lot of responsibility. So, I’m a guy who’s driven by results. I am very result oriented as well. So, yes, I know that I have got to perform, and the players have got to perform as well. I am really looking forward to that challenge."
