Manchester United are set to make a third bid for Mason Mount after Chelsea rejected their first two bids. United is keen to land the English playmaker in the summer transfer window, but the pursuit could end if the West London club rejects the deal again. The latest bid is reportedly worth around £55 million.
Chelsea demands £65 million, but the Red Devils will not exceed their player budget limit. Mount has only one year left on his contract, so they are unlikely to make another offer. With United reluctant to meet Chelsea's demands, Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano says they will compromise.
Dimitar Berbatov believes the incoming Chelsea manager can convince Mount to continue at Chelsea
Meanwhile, former Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov has urged the club to quickly complete Mound's transfer as he believes new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will want to keep the star midfielder in his squad.
"I was surprised at Mason’s lack of game time at Chelsea last season. I’m not certain of the reasons behind this, but now we have to see if Mauricio Pochettino can convince Mason to stay at Stamford Bridge and whether he will be desperate to keep him at Chelsea," Berbatov said.
"Mauricio will want to speak to all the players in the squad and see where they are mentally and whether they want to commit to doing their best for Chelsea next season. Decisions will be made once these conversations are held. Ultimately, I believe Pochettino would like to keep Mason at Chelsea because he’s a good player," he added.
Due to financial constraints, United will not spend too much on one player as they want to strengthen other areas. According to reports, they are also interested in West Ham captain Declan Rice. However, Arsenal and Manchester City are also keen to sign him, so United must speed up their move.
