It was a record-breaking night for Pep Guardiola's men at Istanbul's Ataturk Olympic Stadium as Manchester City lifted the UEFA Champions League title for the first time. The Premier League club beat Inter Milan 1–0 in the summit clash to become only the second English team to complete the treble since Manchester United in 1998–99. City had won the Premier League and recently been crowned FA Cup champions.

The European champions have had an amazing pool of players over the past few years with a definite core who have been able to make the most of their potential in the crucial match. The first half saw both teams tighten their screws, but the deadlock was broken in the 68th minute by the Spaniard Rodri, who scored the game's lone goal.

City won despite losing their star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to injury in the first half. While this is City's first UCL title, it is Guardiola's third as a coach, having previously won the trophy twice with Spanish club Barcelona FC. He also became the sixth manager to win the Champions League with two different clubs.

It was written in the stars, and we did: Guardiola

Speaking after the win, Guardiola said he felt relaxed and satisfied. “It was written in the stars that we’d win this season – and we did. I’m feeling tired, calm and satisfied. This fu*king trophy is so difficult to win. We knew it would be hard. They are really good. We were anxious in the first half but it was a question of being patient. I told them to be patient."

“You have to be lucky, with Ederson at the end, and this competition is a coin. The momentum came from winning the Premier League and FA Cup and now we have this. It was not our best performance. I have no energy to think of next season and we need a break. We will start from zero and it’s our job. Winning the treble is so difficult," the Spanish coach added.
