The action returned in the Indian Premier League 2023 on Sunday with another doubleheader. Earlier yesterday, Chennai Super Kings comprehensively outplayed Mumbai Indians to win the El Clasico matchup of IPL by seven wickets. Sunday's first game saw defending champions lock horns with KKR at their home ground in Ahmedabad. The second game will feature Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings locking horns at the former's home.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. While Gujarat set up a mammoth target of 205 runs for the team from the City of Joy, Vijay Shankar remained the star with his dazzling knock of 63 runs off just 24 balls. After Ajinkya Rahane's surprising half-century off 19 balls, Vijay Shankar continued the trend of unlikely sources yielding great runs for teams in this year's edition of the IPL.

Vijay Shankar scored four boundaries and five maximums

Gujarat started off with openers Shubman Gill scoring runs at a decent pace. However, they lost their other opener, Wriddhiman Saha, cheaply at the score of 17 runs off 17 balls, with the team's total being 33. From there, a partnership between Gill and Sai Sudarshan saw the Titans cruise to 100 from 11.4 overs.

Following this significant partnership, the star of Gujarat's innings, Vijay Shankar, took over. Shankar's quick-fire knock of 63 off 24 took the team total to 204/4 in 20 overs. He decorated his innings with nine boundaries, five of which were maximums deposited into the stands.

For the visitors, mystery spinner and T20 specialist Sunil Narine remained the pick of the bowlers returning with a three-wicket haul from his four overs, conceding just 33 runs. Last game's debutant Suyash Sharma picked up the fourth for KKR whilst conceding 35 in his four overs.

Next, in the Indian Premier League 2023, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will host the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday. While RCB will play the game against the backdrop of a humiliating defeat to KKR by 81 runs, LSG are riding high on confidence after outplaying Hyderabad in their own backyard.
