West Indies batters made a strong start to their first innings on Friday after India posted a massive total of 438 on the back of Virat Kohli's sensational century. The hosts will be happy to have restricted India below 500 after putting up a fight in the final two sessions on Day 2 of the second Test in Trinidad. West Indies are 86/1 at stumps with Krik McKenzie on 14 off 25 and Kraigg Brathwaite 37 off 128.
Windies' captain Brathwaite and left-hander opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul demonstrated patience, something they may have learned from Kohli's superb knock. The two took time to settle and the Indian bowlers were not allowed to strike with the new ball in the final session. They scored 71 runs without being beaten by Indian pacers or even falling into the trap of the hero of the first Test, Ravichandran Ashwin.
However, at the close of the day's play, India achieved the breakthrough they were looking for in 34 overs. Chanderpaul played a lose shot that was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja and it ended up in the hands of Ashwin. Debutant McKenzie came in to bat at No. 3 and displayed his intent with a six against Ashwin and remained unbeaten on 14 with the skipper in 41 overs.
Virat Kohli's sensational hundred takes India to a mammoth total
Earlier, the former India captain played a sensibly patient innings to smash his 29th Test century. It was Kohli's 76th international century and first overseas hundred since 2018. The 34-year-old scored 121 runs off 206 balls in his landmark 500th international game before being run out. Jadeja and Ashwin also made significant contributions to India's first innings score with brilliant half-centuries.
After losing the first Test by an innings and 141 runs in Dominica, a victory is essential for West Indies in the ongoing match to level the two-match series. They will be positive about the start they got and will look to continue the momentum in the next sessions. India, on the other hand, will want to grab quick wickets and seal the series to start the 2023-25 WTC on a high note.

Why Kirk McKenzie was sitting on bench till now @CaribCricket @windiescricket ?
He looks good while playing shots, he has an intent to score runs.
McKenzie and Athanaze are good talent for #WestIndies.#INDvsWI
Ravichandran Ashwin is at his prime form.
