Rajasthan Royals (RR) registered their second win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 by beating Delhi Capitals (DC) by 57 runs on Saturday, April 8. RR openers got off to a brisk start, and despite a shaky mid-phase, they managed to put up a competitive total of 199 on the board.

While chasing the mammoth total, David Warner put up a lone fight as none of the other batters could step up to support their captain. RR bowlers did an outstanding job in restricting their opponents to 145 runs.

RR were asked to bat first after losing the toss and their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler proved DC's choice wrong. Buttler had a slow start to his innings but provided solid support to Jaiswal, who played a blinder of an innings, scoring 60 off 31 balls. The youngster, who hit a 25-ball fifty, put on a 98-run partnership in 8.3 overs in the first wicket before being dismissed by Mukesh Kumar.

Captain Sanju Samson was out for a duck in 4 balls and Riyan Parag was sent back to the pavilion by Rovman Powell for 7 runs. After such a strong start, it looked like RR might mess lose their way. However, England's limited overs captain and top run-scorer of the last IPL, Jos Buttler ensured that his team reached a commanding position.

Buttler had few injury concerns, but the veteran batter smashed 79 runs off 51 balls. Shimron Hetmyer also contributed significantly to their innings, scoring 39 runs off 21. While defending a massive score, Trent Boult gave his team a dream start by dismissing Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey in back-to-back deliveries in the first over of the innings.

Warner scored 65 and tried to win the match for his team, but his poor strike rate and lack of support from the other batters resulted in their third defeat of the tournament.
