Paris Saint Germain (PSG) suspended Lionel Messi after he allegedly skipped the club's training to honour a commercial commitment in Saudi Arabia. Messi has apologised to the club and his teammates for his unauthorised trip.
He explained in a video statement that he had organised the trip, cancelled it previously, and assumed that he would have the day off after the game, as had happened before. Messi's suspension came after PSG's loss to Lorient in the Ligue 1, but the club remains at the top of the table, with a five-point lead over Marseille.
Messi issued a video in which he apologised to PSG for his wrongdoings. He said, “Hello. Well, I wanted to make this video after everything that's going on. First of all, I apologise again to my team-mates at the club. I honestly thought that we were going to have the day off after the game as we had done before. I had organised this trip to Saudi Arabia, which I had previously cancelled and I couldn't go. Once again, I apologise for what I did. So here I am, waiting to see what the club wants to do, nothing more. A hug."
PSG manager Christophe Galtier was informed of Messi's suspension and emphasised that private life must remain separate from professional life. He also condemned the protests by supporters outside Messi's house, stating that private life must remain private. He understands the fans' anger and disappointment but believes that protests should not happen at players' homes as they can be dangerous and uncontrollable.
“The decision was nothing to do with me. I was informed of the decision. I can’t say it has been a pleasant period," Galtier said. “I can understand the anger, the disappointment of our fans. You may protest at the training ground or at the PSG office or after a match at the Parc des Princes but I cannot accept it at anyone’s house. “There is a lot of these things happening at the moment, and they can be uncontrollable and dangerous," concluded the PSG manager.
Messi's current contract with PSG is set to expire at the end of the current season, and he is expected to leave the club following the ongoing campaign. The recent developments have added to PSG's poor performances, but Galtier believes that the decision to suspend Messi was not his and that he cannot hide behind it.
The situation has caused a stir among football fans and media outlets, with many speculating about Messi's future and the impact of his suspension on PSG's performance. Despite the setback, PSG remains one of the top teams in Europe, and the suspension may serve as a wake-up call for the team to focus on their performance.

Only real goats apologize. Messi put his pride to the side and accepted his mistakes. Regardless of his accolades and greatness, he did the honorable thing. 👏🏾 pic.twitter.com/xikt21mIcg

Messi indeed very humble, no footballer in his status would have made this video; PSG overreacting with that suspension.
