India tour Bangladesh for the first time since 2018. This tour consists of three ODIs and two tests.  India have come to Bangladesh on the back of a 1-0 loss in the ODI series against New Zealand. India have not been at their best in ODI cricket in recent times.

In the first ODI against Bangladesh, India were off to a terrible start as Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed by Mehidy Hassan Miraz when he reverse-swept the bowler. Rohit Sharma played a quickfire knock of 27 off 31 balls with four fours and one six but he was clean bowled by Shakib Al Hasan.

Virat Kohli came in at number three and he was playing in an ODI after a long gap. He was dismissed for just 9 off 15 balls with one four. He started his innings well with a sweep shot off Mehidy Hasan, but he got out shortly afterwards, He bowled the ball full and wide outside the off stump. Virat did not expect Shakib to go wide and went for the big drive with one hand. He was deceived in flight and so he could not control the shot. Litton Das the skipper rounded things off with a piece of brilliant fielding and went with two hands and ended up catching the ball with one hand.

Kohli has not been in the best of form in ODIs. One of the reasons is that he has not played a lot of ODIs in recent times. He has not scored a hundred in ODIs since 2019. Although he was in great form in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He could not hit the ground running straightaway against Bangladesh.

India were in a precarious position when the top three batters were out. The Men in Blue were 49-3. India will look to fine-tune their flaws and get all in readiness for the 2023 World Cup which will be held on home soil. The technique of the Men in Blue has come under scrutiny when it comes to handling spinners.

They have to come up with better ideas to combat the spinners. It is also not entirely the fault of the Indian players as they have gotten used to playing pacers as they have played more cricket abroad and have played less at home. The flat pitches at home have not helped India in any way as they have struggled in spin-friendly conditions in previous instances in Bangladesh and elsewhere.
