After stepping down as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the end of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL), Virat Kohli is back at the helm for the 2023 season as regular captain Faf du Plessis is yet to recover from a rib injury. So far this season, Kohli has led RCB in two matches, and the squad has performed well in both, defeating Punjab Kings by 24 runs and Rajasthan Royals by seven runs.

The Bangalore-based franchise is having a decent run in the tournament, winning four of their seven games and sitting fifth in the points table. Before their encounter against PBKS, RCB faced Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home ground and lost the game by 8 runs. However, after that, Kohli came in as the stand-in captain and led the team back to winning ways.

Du Plessis has played the last two matches as an impact player and has impressed with the bat, scoring half-centuries in both matches. He is likely to take over as captain for the next match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 26.

RCB doing well under him: Harbhajan

However, former Indian spin bowler Harbhajan Singh wants Kohli to continue as RCB's captain for the remaining matches of the 16th edition of IPL. Harbhajan, who is also a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, feels that the team is doing well under him.

“Virat Kohli should continue captaining RCB for the rest of the season. RCB doing well under him,” Bhaji said on his YouTube channel.

Although fans enjoyed the sight of Kohli leading the side again, they disagreed with Harbhajan's statement because they believe Du Plessis did nothing wrong in removing him. Under the South African cricketer, RCB had a respectable campaign last year, finishing fourth in the points table.

This season too, he has performed well as a captain and a batter. The Proteas batter, who tops the list of leading run scorers with 400+ runs, is currently the holder of the 'Orange Cap'. He has five half-centuries in seven games and is leading the team from the front.
