Indian head coach Rahul Dravid is under the radar as Team India lost the last game and T20I series against West Indies. In the fifth game of the 20-over format fixture, the home side won against the Hardik Pandya-led India by eight wickets, while chasing the target of 166 runs. Dravid after the game at the post-match conference, defended the Indian team after the series loss, he also addressed the batting failure in the series and admitted that plenty of work is needed to solve the ‘batting dept’ issue.
Men in Blue in their lower order didn’t have any recognised batter as Axar Patel at the No.7 spot is the last recognisable batter, after that long tail with the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Mukesh Kumar, who all are pure bowlers. If we compare to the Caribbean side, they have Alzarri Joseph, who comes in at the 11th position for his side and can hit offensive shots
We need to build on that depth: Rahul Dravid
"I think in terms of our squad here, probably it did not allow us the flexibility in some ways to be able to change the combinations a little bit. But I think going forward, we have got to look at certain areas in which we can get better. Finding depth in our batting has been an area we are trying to address. We are trying to do the best we possibly can but that is certainly an area we can look at, how we cannot weaken our bowling attack but ensure we have a certain amount of depth in batting," Dravid said at the post-match conference.
"As these games are going on, and scores are becoming bigger and bigger if you look at West Indies, they had Alzarri Joseph coming in at No. 11 and he can hit a mean ball. So you have sides that have that depth. Obviously, we have some challenges on that front and we need to work on that. It's certainly something that this series has shown us and we need to build on that depth," he further added.
Surely India's defeat has raised many questions within the Indian side, as the likes of ODI World Cup 2023 are around the corner but with Tilak Varma’s impressive performance in the series as his 173 runs in five games was the highest within the Indian batting side in the series, visitors have some positives at last.

Indian captains or coaches had never given excuses like this after losing any match or series...this is something I'm seeing for the first time.

I respect Rahul Dravid Sir, but sorry, as a coach he is a failure because of too many experiments. He should step down as the Head Coach of the Indian team.

That's fine, but seeing experienced players like Hardik and Chahal struggle and let the team down is what's disappointing.
