It has been a tough opening week for the Bangalore franchise in the ongoing Women's T20 League as they have suffered four straight defeats, the last against UP by 10 wickets. Smriti Mandhana and Co have yet to win a match in the tournament as their bowling and batting departments have not been up to par yet. They have been bowled out inside 20 overs twice in the four matches and the bowlers have conceded 200+ runs twice so far. Bangalore will have to rethink their plans, assess their performances and come back hard again to stay in the competition.
The Red Army opted to bat first and Sophie Devine got off to a flying start but their skipper couldn't find her form once again in the league and was dismissed for just 4 runs. Devine and Ellyse Perry were building a partnership but the former was dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone for 36 off 24 balls. Perry, however, fought hard to get her team to a respectable total, but she was losing partners at the other end at regular intervals. The Australian all-rounder's lone fight ended after scoring 52 off 39 balls including six fours and one six. Ecclestone's four-wicket haul and Deepti Sharma's three-wicket performance tore apart their Bangalore's middle order.
Alyssa Healy powers UP to register a massive win
Chasing a below-par total, it was a cakewalk for UP batters. Captain Alyssa Healy led the proceedings without showing any mercy to the Bangalore bowlers as she scored 96 off 47 balls to complete the match in just 13 overs. The Lucknow-based team promoted Devika Vaidya to the opening slot and she played a proper anchor role alongside Healy to register another win for them in the tournament.
Mandhana's side will find it difficult to bounce back in the tournament now, but they have a weekend to prepare with a positive mindset and come back well for the rest of the season.
In her post-match presentation, the Bangalore captain said: "In the last four games it's been happening. We start well and then lose a cluster of wickets. I take the blame as well. Need to get runs on the board for the bowlers to defend. Overs 7-15 we spoke about getting 7-8 per over. Didn't work out today. We're trying to get a balanced team. Let's see how it goes. I've tried to speak to all the players about it. We'll have to keep doing it. Last one week has been really tough on the team. Lots to reflect, lots to work on. Should admit last week has been really tough. Lot of people have reached out to me. As international cricketers we have faced these situations."
Meanwhile, Bangalore's four consecutive defeats have left social media flooded with trolls and memes. Here are some reactions from fans:ย
