Lebron James, the big gun, might as well stay with Los Angeles Lakers for the next two years. It has been reported that the small forward has accepted a two-year extension from the team. LA Lakers have retained him for the next two years for a whopping $97 million that'll allow him to continue playing for the team. Ohio-born has been in the club since 2018 and his stint with the club will go on for two more years.
The 38-year-old is considered to be one of the greatest players of all time and moved in from Cleveland Cavaliers in the year 2018. ESPN reported that a deal also includes an option for his son to become a rookie player for the 2024-25 season. This also means that his contract would be worth $111 million if the NBA decides to hike the salary cap in the 2023-24 season.
The terms would also mean that it would give James a career guaranteed earnings of $532 million. This might bring him close to Kevin Durant's record career earnings. Ohio-born player said that he wants to play alongside his eldest son in the 2024-25 campaign. And with his statement, it is quite clear that his wave won't settle for now.
Lebron James' NBA legacy:
Lebron James competed in eight consecutive NBA finals from 2011 to 2018. The small forward won his first-ever NBA championship while representing the Miami Heat in 2012. He went on to retain the glory, once again, in the year 2013. He was the 'Time Athlete of the Year' in 2020 and has won NBA titles four times. The Lakers failed to capitalize on the opportunity last year as they missed the playoffs. James played only 56 games due to persistent injuries. He averaged 6.2 assists a game, 30.3 points, and 8.2 rebounds last year.
The Lakers last won the NBA title in the year 2020. It is possible that by retaining him, the Lakers have increased their chances of winning one more title. Considered to be one of the greatest, many aspiring basketball players idolize him.
