Chennai Super Kings have registered their second consecutive victory in Indian Premier League 2023 after losing the first game to Gujarat Titans. This time, CSK defeated their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in match number 12 of the season. MI suffered their second consecutive loss of the season after losing their first game to Royal Challengers Bangalore, earlier.

Batting first at the Wankhede stadium, MI posted a total of 157 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. In reply, CSK chased the winning total in 18.1 overs. MI were looking for a big start as the skipper Rohit Sharma (21 off 13) and Ishan Kishan added 38 runs for the first wicket in four overs, before Rohit got bowled by Tushar Deshpande on a good length delivery by the pacer.

After that, Kishan also lost his wicket while taking on Ravindra Jadeja on the fourth ball of the seventh over, but ended up giving a catch to Dwaine Pretorius at long-on. The wicketkeeper batter got out after scoring 32 runs off 21 ball, including five boundaries. Suryakumar Yadav was also seen struggling with his poor form and was caught behind by the CSK skipper MS Dhoni in the eighth over by Mitchell Santner.

After that, Jadeja struck again and took a splendid catch of Cameron Green on his own delivery in the ninth over, and went on to dismiss the inform batter Tilak Verma in the 13th over. The left-arm spinner scalped 3 wickets conceding 20 runs in his four overs.

Tim David showed some big hits before getting out on 31 off 22 balls with four and two sixes. Hrithik Shokeen remained unbeaten on 18 off 13 as MI go past 150 runs. Apart from Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande and Mitchell Santner took 2 wickets each, while Sisanda Magala put 1 in his bag.

Ajinkya Rahane scored the fastest half-century of the season

Chasing the winning total, CSK lost Devon Conway for a duck in the very first over of the innings. After that, Ajinkya Rahane, who was playing his first match of the season, marked his arrival for Chennai Super Kings by scoring the fastest half-century (in 19 balls) of the season.

The 34-year-old got out after scoring 61 runs off just 27 balls, hitting seven fours and three sixes. Rahane ended up giving a catch to Suryakumar Yadav while trying to take on Piyush Chawla. He put up a partnership of 82 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwad for the second wicket and, thereby, put CSK in a commendable position against MI.

Gaikwad and Shivam Dube then added 43 runs for the third wicket. Dube got out after scoring 28 off 26 balls, while Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 40 runs off 36 balls, hitting two four and a maximum.
